Do you have too many keys, membership cards or other collectibles hanging from your vehicle’s ignition? Too heavy of a keyring can damage your vehicle’s ignition system. A heavy keyring puts extra weight on the ignition and can cause it to fail. The extra weight can wear out the tumblers in your ignition, making it unable to properly engage when trying to start your vehicle. The extra weight on your keychain can lead to unanticipated and costly repairs. What should be on your vehicle’s ignition keyring? The only thing that should be hanging from your vehicle‘s ignition is the ignition key and the remote. We suggest using a removable keyring that allows easy removal of all extra weight before putting your key into the ignition.
